My first blog
Hey y'all! Well, lets see where to start. I got this site mainly to stay in contact with some people I met 2 weeks ago in Lancaster. (Which BTW was fantastic!) My name is Alyssa, I live in the great lonestar state, and I am an ambassador for Christ who loves to voice her opinions! I really enjoyed being in Lancaster and meeting everybody really made all the stress of getting up there worth while. After I left PA my family went to Vermont for a week where we met another family who I also think I will keep in contact with for a number of reasons (right lisa? *wink*) I seriously want to get back up to both places as soon as my parents (and my bank account) will allow. So, anyway, I don't know much of what else to post about. So anyway, I will just throw off what is on the top of my head right now, also keeping in mind that not very many people will see it to start off with, anyway. What do you think is a woman's place in the church? The most obvious scripture that comes to mind is 1 Timothy 2:11-15 11Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
15Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
The main verse is probably verse 12 but my pastor has ingrained in me to look at things in context so that is why I posted all of it. Plus I think it helps. Having the whole feminest movement now-a-days and with the whole da vinci code thing going on, I have been thinking about this recently. Not overseeing the fact that I love to teach and I have wondered "Well what is the border line with speaking my mind, opinions, and saying why I think they are right, and yet not taking on a teaching in front of guys?" I have also heard the side that women ought to not teach AT ALL reading verse 12 as But I suffer not a woman to teach,(pause) nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. So therefore if you do take that first part and read it by itself, it does say that, but then again that is not reading it in context I don't think. Because since this whole chapter is dealing with the roles of men and women, I believe that it is talking about teaching men directly, it is not talking about women teaching women. But what is that borderline where you can speak your mind, yet not take on a teaching position? Any thoughts? (And if any guys read this I would love to hear your thoughts on this also.) When I come up with more verses and have more time I will post more. Have a great day y'all!
